Community Supported Agriculture

Picture
A CSA is a just another way to buy your produce.  This is a one-year commitment between you and the farmer.  You agree to help financially support the farm for the year, and in return you get the best of the farm's bounty.  I run my CSA program a little differently than most farms do.  I do not put together weekly pre-packed boxes for a set number of weeks.  Instead, you can choose what you want, in the quantities you desire.  There is no weekly minimum to spend, or any maximum on what you may get each week.  There is no penalty or loss if you miss a week.  You can choose the size of your investment in the farm.

Members will make a pre-season investment in the farm at a denomination of your choice.  The minimum is $200, up to a maximum of $500 for the season.  You spend down your account at any time at either farmers market or at the farm.  You do not need to shop every week, and there is no weekly minimum purchase.  Your selections will be deducted from your initial pre-season investment.

Pick up locations are at the Wake Forest Farmers Market on Saturdays, the Moore Square Farmers Market in downtown Raleigh on Wednesdays, or at the farm.  (Click here to view the farm's location through Google maps.)  Go to the Produce page to see a list of what I grow, and when it is usually available.

For the member:
Choice & Flexibility

You choose the size of the share you buy in the farm.

You choose what you want each week, in the quantities you want.  While you are not required to shop every week, or make a weekly minimum purchase, this works best for both of us if you purchase
some produce most weeks.  Quantities may occasionally be limited on some items.

There is no need to miss out or lose money if you go out of town or on vacation.

You will receive a Harvest List through email each week in your inbox, with that week’s available produce and prices, so you can plan ahead.

If you are pressed for time, expect to get to the market late, or are picking up from the farm, (or any other reason) you are welcome to place an order in advance from the Harvest List.  I will have your items ready and bagged for you to grab-and-go.  (Pre-ordering is not necessary, unless you plan to pick up from the farm.)

 Savings
The greater your investment, the greater your savings.  $200-$349 gives you 5% savings, $350-$500 gives you 10% savings.  So a $500 investment buys you $550 in produce, or a $200 investment buys you $210 in produce.

I will track your account for you, and let you know where your balance stands each month.  You may add to your account later in the year if you've used all of your credit.   Credit expires at the end of the calendar year.  Unused portions of your investment are not refundable.

Food Security
You help support a small local sustainable farm and obtain a certain amount of 'food security.'  You know who grew your food, how it was grown, and where it came from.
For the farm:

·         Your pre-season investments provide the start-up capital for the farm each year.  This is a sort of grass-roots farm financing that means I can give the banks and credit card companies the run-around!  January through March, the farm’s expenses are at their highest, while farm income is virtually nonexistent.

·        Provides me with a relatively secure market for the food I grow on the farm..

·        Guarantees the farm a better return on every item grown and sold, and reduces the number of unprofitable or unpopular crops I need to grow in the interest of providing a little extra variety in traditional CSA boxes.
